Taylor Hicks: Soul Patrol in town at HOB

Taylor Hicks, "American Idol" winner and object of Soul Patrol affection, will jam tonight at House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach.

Hicks, 29, wrote his first song "In Your Time" when he was 18 and taught himself to play guitar when he was 19.

He performed at various bars in Alabama and Florida and recorded two independent albums before making it big in 2006 with his "American Idol" win.

Hicks then signed with Arista Records, released a self-titled album in late 2006 and his single "Do I Make You Proud" debuted at number one on Billboard's Hot 100.

A portion of all sales of Hicks' CDs and digital downloads is donated to the American Red Cross.

Hicks was the subject of two "Weekend Update" skits on NBC's "Saturday Night Live," Weird Al Yankovic parodied Hicks on his 2006 album "Straight Outta Lynwood" with "Do I Creep You Out" and he performed at the Kodak Theatre for the finale of season six of "American Idol."
